A Bit of Good

Every day may not be good but,
there's good in every day

Even when you have the worst day in the world
you still need to look for that bit of good.
If you are having trouble at the store look for that one smile from the cashier.
No reason to be grumpy when you're having a bad day or you will just make things worse.
When something goes wrong just stop, breath, and calm down.
Don't let a bad day bum you out.

Chalk Sketching!

We took our pantry door and painted a chalkboard on it.
I love the chalkboard!
Once a week I try and write a quote or saying and draw a picture that goes with it.

What I like to do is go on Pinterest and look up chalkboard art
and pin it to my chalkboard board.
Here is a link

Here are a few examples of my chalkboard drawings.

Sorry, the last photo is cut off a little.
Anyways, doing this is so much fun and helps you be more creative.
It also helps you find what kind of quotes you like.
And as a bonus for doing it, you can make a blog post out of it.

The Choice of Acrylic or Oils!

🍩
The Difference Between Oil and Acrylic Paint

Acrylic
  • Dries within fifteen minutes to an hour
  • They darken slightly as they dry, while oil paints do not
  • Is not the best for slow painters
  • Mixing acrylics is more difficult because the acrylics are already beginning to dry
  • You’ll also need to clean your brushes quickly after finishing painting with acrylics—wait too long and the bristles will be full of dried paint.
  • Clean-up with plain old water is a snap
  • Acrylic paint can be quite cheap
  • You can dilute acrylic paint with water and use it in an entirely different way, almost like watercolors
Oil
  • Will stay wet for days or weeks, depending on the humidity and temperature
  • They have more pigment in them, allowing richer, more vivid colors
  • Is great for painters that want to work on something that will take more than a day
  • Oils you can mix colors for days on end, producing subtle color variations that you won’t have time to make with acrylics
  • You’ll need to use Turpentine or Mineral Spirits (both toxic) to clean your brushes and hands
  • Oils cost more than acrylics do
  • You’ll need to prop the windows open because of the toxic fumes
  • If you’re a slow painter, deliberate and cautious (perhaps used to spending hours on a single drawing) then I’d recommend oils

Right now I'm using acrylic and have yet to use oils.
After some more research, and I have all the supplies, I will most likely try them.
Because I love to try new things and find out more about art.
If I didn't name something about acrylics or oils then please do share in the comments.
Also if you have any type of question then please do ask.

Something to Paint!

🔷
One problem I have a lot with drawing and painting is finding a subject.
I am sure you do too.
Anyways I am going to share what I do when I try to find something to paint or draw.

First I think, what kind of mood am I in today, or what I have in mind for today's painting.
If I can't think of something then I go on Pinterest and look up photography,
or I look at my own photos.
I try and look for sunsets or pretty photos like these

You can just draw the wagon or paint the whole thing.
You can paint just the flowers or draw just the pot that is holding the flowers.
Mix it up a little. Don't be afraid to change the scenery and try something different.

One of my favorite things to paint is the sky.
I love sunsets and colorful night skies filled with stars.
So I search that on Pinterest and pin it to my future art, board.

Styles of Art!

As you may know, I love art!
But I have been having an issue with trying to find what style of art I love best.
So for this post, I am going to list my two favorite types of art styles.

The first is impressionism.
I really like impressionism. In fact, I even tried to paint my own. It didn't look too bad but I'm still not quite sure that's the type for me.
Anyways, impressionism is pretty much a bunch of tiny streaks that eventually form the picture. It is relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes. It looks like this.

I really like this form of painting and it truly makes a picture pop.
Many famous artists use this form of painting.
Van Gough used it on his Starry Night painting, Claude Monet used it on a lot of his paintings.
But there are different types of impressionist paintings too.
Like my absolute favorite is modern impressionism.
It's bright colorful and amazing.

Another is realism, and like its name, it is real looking.
One of the main things about realism is detail.
As you can see in this picture of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa there is lots of detail.

There are so many other styles of painting, and if you don't paint I'm sure there is a different type of art you would like.
For example drawing, photography, and even sewing.
Be creative.

That Winter Feeling!

Everyone has certain things they love about each season.
As you know right now it is winter and here are some of my favorite things about winter.

Right now I live in Florida
but in less than a month my family and I are moving to Colorado.
And I know what you are thinking "that's crazy that you are moving from a hot, humid, and sunny place to a freezing in the winter, dry place."
But it isn't crazy because our family has been in the snow and cold lots of times before,
and we used to live in Colorado.

Anyways one of my favorite things is playing in the snow!
Sledding, building snowmen, snowball fights, and building igloos.
After we play in the snow for a good couple of hours I like to go inside to a warm fire,
sit by the window with hot chocolate while watching the snowfall
and cuddling up in a blanket.

Another thing I love is to sit next to the fire and play games.
Games like checkers, cards, and board games.
I also like to sit next to the fire and read a book or listen to soft music.

That is just some of my favorite things about winter.
Feel free to share some of yours.

Road Trip Boredom!

😃

My family and I love to travel. I have never truly been out of the U.S. but my parents have.
In fact, my Dad has been all over the world.

We aren't a normal family, we don't pay hundreds of dollars to fly four states over for two weeks. Especially since there are eight people in my family!
Instead, we take road trips.
One time we even took a 22 state trip across the U.S.

Keeping kids entertained for days in the car is very difficult. Here is something fun that we like to do on long trips.

What we like to do is, we print activity packs before we leave!
We don't let the kids see what is in their pack until we are on the road because everything is more fun when it's a surprise.
The first thing we always put in is some games.
We put in tic-tack-toe, hangman, crossword puzzles, and any other games we can think of.
Next, we find out some stuff that one person likes.
For example, my little sister loves Strawberry Shortcake so we look up and print Strawberry Shortcake coloring pages, and for my brothers, we do Lego and army men coloring pages.
They love them!
Whenever we take a trip we make some activity packs.
We usually use binders or simply a folder to hold the papers. But don't forget to bring clipboards for everyone so they have something to draw on.
Any board kid will love this idea.
